Subject: [CR]Collecting Theme: Model Specific

Now that we have weighed in on our ultimate "wish list" which were refreshingly and inventively varied in types, dates and countries, anyone out there tried to collect a specific model in all of its variations?

I don't mean having every single colour of a 1973 Masi or one of each size, but a representative collection of a certain model that underwent sufficient meaningful variations during a long production run to make it interesting. Are there indeed models out there that meet this criteria?

I nominate two: the Raleigh Professional and the Peugeot PX-10 (the later takes some defination and discipline as the model number changed but I am talking about Peugeot's topline racing bike be it a PX, PY or PZ etc)

For example, a Raleigh Pro collection c. 1969-1984 (to the end of the CR timeline) would give one a remarkably varied collection of top-end machines for amateur, semi-pro and pro racing of the era, varied frame types and geometry, components, 531 or 753 tubing, different colours etc. Yet all bona fide the same model name, same manufacturer. One could also have machines built "en masse" or custom-built. And indeed track or road.

A sample list might include:

1969 Raleigh Pro (white, Weinmann centre pulls etc, NR,) 1971 Raleigh Pro (silver and mink, full NR, fastback stays, tighter angles) 1972 Raleigh Team Pro (team colours with yellow head, whatever components they used and there were lots of variations including Huret, fastback stay, Carlton built) 1973 Raleigh Team Pro (team colours with yellow head, full chromed forks, full SR, Ilkeston build) 1975 Raleigh Team Pro (team colours with black head, half-chromed forks, full SR 1976 Raleigh Pro (blue and silver, NR) 1976 Raleigh Team Pro (team colours, SR, 753 1984 Raleigh Team Pro (Raleigh Panasonic), 753

add one or two track bikes and if one were really lucky, a true team Pro with the rider's initials on the BB....

etc. etc.
