Im taking the lazy way out and forwarding a copy of email exchange between Mark Bulgier and I on the Brake reach chart discussed last week. To save you reading all thats below, Mark has posted an updated spreadsheet with Mafac and other brand brake reach dims. We'd both be happy to have any updates folks care to share. The URL to his web page is below.

Tom,

Interesting stuff, thanks!

Attachment is my version with some additions, including other brands and sidepulls, so it's not a Mafac Centerpull spreadsheet anymore.

I would like to put it up on the web with your permission - actually I did already, but will take it down or change it if you'd rather not have it there, or not in that form. You can check it out at http://bulgier.net/docs/bike/Brake_Reach.htm - let me know if you approve.

Note that I put it up as a web page, not the Excel spreadsheet - my thinking is, I want people to e-mail me with changes and corrections, rather than letting people download the spreadsheet and edit it themselves - trying to keep all the info together in one place. Comments?

If you want, you can announce it on CR as well. I'm not a subscriber, so I can't do it. I'm sure we'll get people adding more data if we ask them to.

Regards, Mark

Hi Mark,

Here it is. Believe Sutherlands was main source for this. Would like to have anything else you have. I know from phone conversation with Mike Barry there was some kind of catalog page - I think from Mafac? - that listed part number and dimensions for the various mounting plates. Im under impression that the different sizes within a model were achieved via mounting plates and Im also under impression that the same mounting plates would sometimes have been used on different models. Sure this is true for instance with Racer and Competition. Hello Tom,

I would like to see that spreadsheet please. I think I have some more data to add too - I can measure Tiger and Top63 brakes.

Thanks,

Mark
