On my Schwinn Twin Tandem, which I converted and raced off road in the early 80s, I used normal TA cranks front and rear. I didn't change the threads, I put a right cranks on the left side with right pedals. I never have had a problem. I think that the only way something would happen is if the pedal bearings are bad and cause extra drag. I have installed helicoils in cranks with stripped threads with no problems also, but in your case, I don't recommend it.

It is not that hard but Tom Adams has a set of TA's for sale. ask him. I would hate to see a set of nice cranks changed when there are a lot of tandem cranks out there. Steven

Has anyone in the group ever converted a right side crank to a left hand

thread for a tandem timing crank? I have heard of using a Helicoil to do this but have never used one.
