You know, now that I study the eBay photos again, I think you are right. In my previous response to Marc, I was deceived by the eBay seller talking about an original Zeus BB and crankset, so I assumed it was a late 60's/ very early 70's Competition with Zeus dropouts and mostly Zeus components. But the Capella lugs and also the full sloping fork crown match the Competition MkII and are completely different from the earlier Zeus-equiped Competition. If Marc has now received the frame, one almost certain comfirmation that it is an MkII is to check the dropouts, If they are Campy, Simplex or Huret, rather than Zeus, then this is 99.9% certain to be an MkII, given the other evidence.

As to the "original" Zeus crank, I just noticed that the seller says it is 52/42. The Zeus Competition crank on the early Raleigh Competition, as I said in my earlier post, had a 151 inner BCD like an old pre-NR Campy Record, which means it won't take an inner ring smaller than 44T. So I doubt seriously if the Zeus crank is in fact original, as it would have to be a Zeus Criterium, not a "leftover" Competition from the earlier Raleigh Competition.

I think all the evidence supports your view that this is a circa 1973 Competition MkII, for which the original color would indeed have been black, with original components including Huret Jubilee derailleurs, TA Professional three-arm cranks, and Normandy Competition hubs,

I also think that 1972 was unique in that in was the only year for fancy lugs on the Pro. I know and have seen some listmembers blue mink and silver versions of this bike. Has anyone ever seen a (brown) mink and silver version with the fancy lugs? These lugs are shown in the 1973 catalog chromed on the Pro Track - stunning! In view of this I think that the "1972" catalog on the Retro Raleigh site actually shows 1971 models (at least my 1971 Pro and Inter match the pictures and specs).

As a final bit of Raleigh catalog trivia (I promise) the 1971 catalog (1972 so-called) specifies a Brooks Team Pro for the Professional, and the picture seems to show large rivets, etc. This is what I have on my '71 Pro so if true, this makes for an earlier introduction for the Team Pro saddle than I have seen claimed on the list (1973 I think?). I am not 100% sure that the Team Pro on my Pro is original so this is another theory. Any thoughts?
