On my Stronglight 49d with TA rings it is 5.5 mm (just checked with stack of feeler gauges); it was the same with TA on TA. That ain't much, and I think I measured 7 mm for a Stronglight 99 (several months ago, don't remember exact figure). So, Peter is giving good advice. I could not get either an early Shimano DuraAce or a SunTour Cyclone to set up cleanly. Much to my surprise, a homely Campy record is doing fine. But, I'd still rather find a pretty Stronglight 99 crankset for the Hetchins...
