Last Sunday I attended the Veteran Cycle Club's Boot and Back annual event. This is one of the oldest meets in the VCC calendar. It always has a large crowd and many cycling clubs and groups make sure they ride out to see this wonderful display of old and classic machines. I always attend with my Dad sadly now my car as he is too old to ride out to it now. Before and after the time trial the conversation is always about cycling related matters and the many past characters of this great sport. This year there was a very interesting conversation about the most popular makers( between 1937 & 54), this was biased towards London makers as those chatting were all old London and home counties club members. They were of all of the opinion that the most popular makes were Hobbs of Barbican, Claud Butler, Bates, Paris-Rensch and GA. Obviously many clubs had a particular allegiance to a local builder but they were saying that these were the frames that they saw in great numbers on club runs at races and outside the numerous cycling cafes. Has anyone got any thoughts on this subject?

Thats all for now. Keep those wheels spinning, in your memories if not still on the road. Be lucky Mick Butler Huntingdon UK.
