As far as I'm aware, the Spidel side-pulls were just rebadged Mafac LS. I have a pair of each, and they are pretty much identical. Mafac did make a cheaper and much rougher finished side-pull of the same basic design as the LS. Maybe you are comparing the Spidels to these cheaper Mafacs.
