I would have said that at least in the West of England in the '50s and early 60s, Bianchi and Claud Butler were most popular. I had a Maclean Eclipse built for me in 1957 just to be different. It was one of the lightest frames available at the time at 4 lbs. In fact I still have the Maclean and I have just dug out their 1957 catalogue and my receipt; the price: 17 pounds, which in those days was about $68. It was built from Accles & Pollock chrome/moly double-butted tubing. I rode the bike about 15 miles last week and am now wondering why I bought a new Trek last year, as it's such a comfortable ride!!
