It strikes me that the prices for Campagnolo pieces increased drastically around 1971. Perhaps the cranksets were always expensive and certainly the brakes were expensive when they came out. But the Nuovo Record derailleurs and hubs could be found on relatively inexpensive (but nicely made) bikes during 1968 and 1969 (and perhaps 1970).

Then it suddenly seemed to change. Was this due to labor unrest in Italy that caused prices to rise? Or did Campagnolo suddenly realize that there was tremendous cachet related to all their parts?
