How could I forget all that? I remember well the night that President Nixon announced them because, earlier that day, I had ridden my Campagnolo NR equipped 1969 Atala (let's ensure we're still on-topic) from New York City to New Haven, CT. I still remember the epithets that my host hurled at the TV screen.

By the way, a day later my clamp-on NR shift lever broke. The boss pulled away from the clamp! That was somewhere between Providence and Boston. There was no way you could find a Campagnolo replacement in a rural area. I was lucky to find a bike shop!

Anyway, I suspect the factors mentioned in the other emails also contributed to the situation. These things all happened in such rapid succession that it seemed like an instantaneous price increase to me... Cheers, Fred Rednor - Arlington, Virginia, USA
