Great photo--the bike looks very Italian, especially in the fork area. And this is 1949, shortly after the war! At least, Italy had changed sides in 1943.

Idée on his way to winning the 1949 Critérium National. Bike is labeled Peugeot. Note the tape wrapped around the brake levers and first few cms of the brake cable housings, cables routed between the handlebar and cages, wing nuts, pump behind the seattube, and full set of braze-ons. From "But et Club" No.173, 4 April 1949.
