In the first year that schwinn offered the Tempo, which I think was 1985, Columbus introduced Tenax and could not fulfill the demand. So they shipped SLP tubing which were cosmetic rejects and labeled it Tenax. As a result, Schwinn bought out the entire supply of Tenax tubing and that year, only the Schwinn offered Tenax tubing.

I was in the market for bikes that year, to help a friend get a new commuter for school to replace his nishiki. We settled on the Tempo.

Can you tell if your tempo is a 1985 ?? It had a great looking Sugino GLP crank. Those bikes looked very hot and were in a beautiful baby blue. If interested I can send you more details on the 1985 models since i still have a catalogue.
