Actually, 7/8th alloy handlebars were once quite common, common enough to be used on the Raleigh Clubman for on the '48 and '49 models, the Lenton Sports '49 and '50 and an option on the RRA I believe. I believe 7/8th alloy bars were used on the pre-war RRA, Rudge lightweights and many others. I have the 7/8th ones on my '48 and '49 Clubmans.

But yes, by the very early '50s, the 15/16th" dia. ones seemed to dominate.
