After watching some items go through Ebay for thumping high prices (good for those who have stock, depressing for the rest of us), I thought the following tit-bit was worth sharing:

A good friend - "Uncle" Bob - knew I was looking for some period wheels for a current resto, so he passed on a set (pair?) from a local garage sale for the price he paid. They are 32/40 track wheels with Prior large-flange hubs. Price? A thumping 50c each. That's 50c Australian - about 40c US.

The rims and flanges were oxidised from age, but they cleaned up beautifully and the double-butted spokes looked great after a coat of silver paint.

When I showed them (with some pride) to an old racer he was horrified. "Prior hubs are rubbish!" he spouted, and gave me a pair of old pro Campag wheels for free. Unfortunately, they were small flange. Still, one can't be too picky these days.

Of course, the price should not influence values, but if anyone has another pair for 80c, I am happy to oblige. I'll even pay for the shipping......

Any other similar stories out there? Freebies don't count.
