As Dale mentions, this might be very much dependent on the particular brakes you're using. My experience has been solely with Mafac cantilevers (or copies) and I've always been able to switch between 27" and 700c wheels without any loss in braking effectiveness. Of course it still requires some fiddling with the angles of the pads, yoke cable length and so forth. Good luck, Fred Rednor - Arlington, Virginia, USA
