Excellent point Mike! But looking at things a little closer, we need to consider that MTB riders are vastly more inclined to using their cars (usually SUVs) to get to the riding place. Therfore, a push for teardrop-tubed full-suspension bikes makes the most sense.

In all seriousness, am I the only one who finds it ironic that "outdoorsy" MTB riders almost all drive to start their rides? Most roadie geeks start that I know start their rides from the front door, though this is a dying trend, possibly due to the rising number of rodaies coming from MTB beginnings. My dim view of the modern cyclist is a guy with a nice midsize SUV that would easily swallow a bike or two (and therby keep them safe) but who prefers to mount his bikes in harm's way on an expensive rack for all the world to see. Gotta project that active lifestyle image.
