My '68 PX-10 was my first nice "10 speed". It definitely had Simplex Criterium derailleurs, Mafac Competition brakes w/ Mafac cable hanger/stop from seatbolt and headset, Stronglight Competition V-4 Headset (V shaped races for 4 contact points with each ball), Stronglight 93 cranks w/ 45x52 teeth, Cyclo 14-21 freewheel, steel Simplex microadjust seatpost, Brooks Pro saddle, Normandy Luxe hubs, skewers w/ a plastic? ball cam and rubber sleeved steel lever that hinged in the middle of the ball cam, with (I think) Mavic tubular rims with the diamond shaped decal. I seem to remember Hutchinson tubulars, metal Simplex shifters w/ a black rubber? sleeve, AVA stem and handlebars. I'm pretty sure that the plastic shifters were strictly for the cheaper UO-8's. Again, I seem to remember the rubber shifter sleeve had an impressed circle with a raised S and raised 'arrowheads' radiating from the circle. There were a lot of PX-10's in Baltimore then, all white w/ black Nervex lugs. Sales were kind of underground, people's houses or garages. The PX-10 seemed the bike of choice for the better heeled riders in the Baltimore Bike Club, started in that year, back in my cutoff and t-shirt days.
I immediately replaced the freewheel w/ a 28 toothed one, and later set the bike up as a triple at 38x45x52. The bike was comfortable, had good balance, and I couldn't wait to replace it with the Woodrup I later owned. Now I'm sorry that I no longer have it. I'll be looking forward to seeing it at the Cirque', and meeting you and your son.
Happy trails,

Just wanted to say hello,
Its been several long months since I last posted to the CR bikelist, eight months to be precise. I just returned from Iraq and will be attending this years Cirque with my son. Because of recent world events over the past three years I have not been able to attend since 2002. 2002's Cirque was very memorable and I look forward to spending time with likeminded people and enjoying this year's event/ride with my son.
In preparation for this years events I have started a few new projects: a '68 PX-10 and a mid 80's BASSO (my first REAL bike I bought as a young man). I have a few questions that I know someone out there will be able to answer.
1. What are the correct front and rear derailleur for a '68 PX-10? Does anyone have photos that may help?
2. What are the correct shifters? I have seen several types: plastic levers - early to mid 60's I think; alloy levers; chromed metal levers with alloy band; chromed metal levers with chromed metal band, two types of metal bands - one with a round logo and one with a diamond logo.
3. Does anyone have a SR rear derailleur from the mid 80's they would be willing to sell?
Take care all, Rich Robinson
