Bicycle Renaissance on the Upper West Side was founded in 1972.

That can't be the oldest, but its a date to beat. A very good bike shop, not a great one, but the owners, Yuling and Mark Miao, count among the best employers I ever worked for.

Mark once asked me if I would work on Christmas. I patronized and explained that here in the US the shopping was all done by then. Mark said "You see". So I came in and dang if he didn't sell a dozen bikes on Christmas morning. I guess he had a regular group of last minute customers who knew he would be open.
