I don't know about fixies, I didn't hear the therm tiul after I stumbled across CR a little over 2 years ago. I was working at OU (in the UK) and after seeing a very well-used Hetchins leaned against a pub, down the road from where Latimer, Ridley, and Cranmer were burned for their faith, I mentioned it to one of the techs at work (not the martyrs, the Hetchins.) He pointed me to CR ....
Never heard the term tubies until three months ago at a Colorado Vintage Wheelmen ride, but since it was said by a monster of a sprinter who'd raced in the 70's, I don't know if its an off topic term.
Tubasti and Clements? I bought a tube of the Clements at Vecchio's in Boulder when I built the frejus up as my first colorado vintage ride...and just like 35 years ago I expect I'll toss the remainder and buy another "fresh" tube when I mount up some tires to new wheels next month. I prefered tubasti even when riding the hot roads of the south santa clara county, never rolled a tire with it but (back then) never got the hang of using clements without making a mess. Perhaps I was always in a hurry to ride then, I don't know. Today, the glue is easy to apply with no mess.
