"And stating Reynolds' long-standing and arrogant policy in regard to replacement decals. Frame owners were dirven to buy "counterfeit" decal s because Reynolds made it all but impossible to obtain "genuine" ones when refinishing a bike. I remember having a LeJeune repainted by an established framebuilder, and even he could only get an ugly "Respray" decal, and then only in English, not French. Don't know if Reynolds has

lightened up any in recent years."

Oh, I doubt it. I mean let's be honest here. So what if some idiot tak es a Reynolds decal and sticks on a Raleigh DL-1 roadster? I would hope one would notice it's not lots lighter all of a sudden. But will someone explain to me why Reynolds decals are not only unavailable "officially" bu t are designed to fall apart at a moments notice? What purpose does that serve? Or is it more a case of being placed invariably where that bane of cycle finishes, the 'orrible clunky bike work stand, is clamped to the sea t tube?

I've also given up understanding the rationale of frame painters/restorers

who refuse to sell their replacement decals. The operative word being se ll. Name the price. The issue is that there are lots and lots of vintage bik es that DON'T need repainting. And repainting does effect the value of a classic. What's often needed is sensible touch-ups (again sell the touch up paint) and a new set of decals. Charge $100-150 for the paint and the decals. Let the market decide. But no, of course not, that would be to o easy and too supportive of the hobby.
