Fascinating, Russ! One notes a lack of chrome on the forks as well. It's also been mentioned that Simpson was using a then rare six-speed freewheel that day and I am not sure how that would work on a stock PX-10.

It's a pity that there is so little written about the cycles in cycling racing. Take that wonderful "Cycle Sport" special on Merckx.. it has everything about the man but nothing about the bikes he rode. Nothing. Is the bike in bike racing akin to the racket in pro tennis? Maybe. But Russ' post and this fascinating discussion leads to believe we at least want to talk about the cycles as well as cyclists.

By the way, Peugeot lovers... Prendas in the UK are coming out with the chequerboard top cycling socks in May!! They have recreated (not entirely authentically alas) the cap, jersey and shorts.. and now the socks. But Tom Simpson never wore those.... I think.
