I bought a full set of Huret Luxe wingnuts at a recent swap, in the hopes of using these with a typical '70's wheelset. Seller told me they had standard threading.

Neither fits Campy or Japanese QR or solid axles I have here. The rear appears to be 9.5 or so but doesn't fit a 3/8" solid axle either. Front seems to be 8mm. The rear ones fit loosely on a front Shimano QR axle, and the thread pitch seems right on or very close.

<snip> According to Sutherland's 4th ed, French would be 8mm * 1.0 mm front and 9.5 * 1.0 rear Campy would be 8mm x 26 tpi front and 9.5 * 26tpi rear

1.0 mm thread pitch is, of course, 24.5 threads per inch, so French won't interchange happily with Campy.

BTW, it is characteristic of Italian/Campy thread to use metric diameter and "English" threads/inch. I've always assumed that they had predominantly US/English machine tools, but don't know the real reasons.
