I don't know the brand of that DO, but the same sort of long points were found on some Simplex DOs, and probably other brands, as late as about 1970. The idea, I believe, was to help guide the axle into the DO during a wheel change.

Are the long points just for show, or were they for a particular kind of derailleur or hub?

Thanks for any help!
