It was a 56cm frame with 700C wheels, although they did use Hi-E's asymmetrical spoking as you mention. He was a machinist, and replaced all the "heavy" hardware with custom-made Al or Ti pieces. IIRC, he also milled flutes into the Vitus steel steer tube to further lighten the fork. It rode pretty well, but definitely was not good for hard sprints. :-)
