Subject: [CR]Advent of Regina Oro freewheel (Ed Granger)

A recent visit to the Regina section of the archives, where I dutifully blew the dust off and read every post that included "Regina" in it, failed to turn up an answer as to the advent of this most musical of freewheels. Chuck Schmidt had (or has, for all I know) a Holdsworthy catalog mentioning the use of the Oro in the 1967 TDF. Obviously, it could have been available only to pros for several years before becoming more widely obtainable. Other posts generally mention the Oro as being available in the early 70s. So in the interest of vintage lightweight research, I'm suggesting we try a little empirical data acquisition. I have an Oro with what I take to be a 1970 date code. If anyone has one dated earlier than that (or knows if there are undated Oro's ala NR rear derailleurs), perhaps they could contact me off list and I'll post the results of our little "study." As a disclaimer, I'll add that my interest in this topic is not purely the advancement of vintage lightweight knowledge but also an attempt to determine whether an Oro is appropriate for my late-60s Cinelli or if I need to track down a Gran Sport Corse.
