Just a note to introduce myself to the group. I am fairly new to the field of lightweight classics, though I have been cycling for pleasure and sport for well over 50 years. My enthusiasm was lit a few years ago when I was 'challenged' to write a history of the Elswick-Hopper company based in my home town of Barton-on-Humber, England. Not particularly well known for classic lightweights the company has nevertheless made some nice machines since starting manufacture in 1890. The glory years were 1958/9 when Ron Coe, Frank Clements, Harry Reynolds etc. were part of a very successful E-H team. As owners of Falcon for some 10 years, when Ernie sold the company to become a main E-H board director, the company was also responsible for the successes of some of the many Falcon teams. After joining the V-CC, and under Peter Brown's tutelage, I have picked up a fair collection of bikes and frames awaiting rebuild. These include a small collection of 1930's Stephen's bike and trike frames; a small North London company. I am looking forward to contributing whatever input I can and will be pleased to answer questions about Elswick-Hopper bikes and Falcon (I am not so up to speed on these but have some catalogues.) Though I have a wealth of scanned catalogues relating to early E-H bikes I have few from 1964 onwards. If anyone has some, I am in the market! The last Elswick was made, I believe, c 1986. I believe someone posted a query about an Elswick Chinook, one of which I have in my garage. Nigel Land
