I'll take a guess,

The seller with the complete bike has pretty poor pictures, a fairly low feedback rating percentagewise, dosen't take paypal unless it's a balance transfer, and dosen't take personal checks either. There's also no firmly stated shipping cost. No one of these things would prevent me from bidding on something I really wanted, but taken together, It would prevent me from bidding on something fairly common like a supercourse. These things would also cause me to bid lower on something rare or something I really wanted.

The seller with just the frame has slightly better pictures, at least showing the chrome is in nice shape. His feedback is just a bit better, but he's had a couple negatives recently. But the shipping looks reasonable, and he does take paypal, which makes things much easier. If the two items were identical, I'd probably bid on his rather than the first sellers. Unless I could pick up from either one, which should eliminate the shipping cost.

The actual reason could be just about anything, Ebay can be very hard to figure out sometimes.

I had no idea Supercourses were bringing this sort of money, It may be time to sell mine.

Complete (says 1973, but looks like 71-72 to me) 58cm Super Course with a lot of original detail, sells for $178: http://ebay.com/<blah> pagenam e=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1

1970 58cm Super Course frame, admittedly it has the anniversary badge, sells for $237, frame only:

Any thoughts on why a very similar frame would sell for much more than a complete bike?

Thanks
