I offer two words, though the assignment called only for one: either "bikegoofdom" or "dementia."

If we viewed our "passion" from the general population's perspective, one can see how goofy or wacked it appears. Our counter-argument might be that the general population does not catch on nor does it appreciate the "art" involved, but that certainly can be said about many things that other people collect and become obssessive about. Some of those obssessions--Japanese swords, guns, Civil War reenactments, beer cans, coins, stamps, even balloon tire collectors--I don't get, and figure ways to make a quick exit when talking to such a person who wants me to "understand" and "appreciate" his or her obssession.

Those not into vintage bikes, even some of those who are into them, would find a few of the topics discussed on this list laughable, straight out goofy, wacked. That some of us can get excited enough to become rude to others about such things as the various iterations of Stronglight 49 cranks or whatever would cause yawns for most poeple and convince others that we are, even from the most benevolent perspective, goofy.

Cheers.
