Subject: [CR]A few items For Sale: 2 sets wheels, Kharkov bike, Campy levers....

Can anyone use any of the following:

1. Complete wheelset (less skewers)--Super Champion Competition 700c rims (light blue labels in great shape, polished alloy), Sunshine low-flange hubs (36 spokes), 6-speed: Atom freewheel, 13-14-16-18-21-24, low-mileage tires (gumwalls are a bit dry, though) branded "Matrix CD3", very true, bearings quite smooth, shiny -- $90 + actual shipping.

2. Complete wheelset (including rear skewer)--Rigida SX100 (narrow) 700c rims (polished alloy), Maillard low-flange hubs with with ordinary-type (spin-on, non-'comatic) freewheel (15-16-18-20-22-24 teeth, i.e., six-speed). Hubs are marked "L 29 87"(front) and "A 16 87" rear; 1987 date of manufacture seems right. Freewheel is marked "M34.7x100" (??)and "01 French 87". Rear skewer is Maillard. New (presta, of course) tubes and new tires are installed--Kenda, gumwall that almost appears cream-colored, nearly whitewall. 25mm diameter tires with about 15 miles on them. Royal blue labels on rims also read "Made in France" and "heat treated" as well as listing brand and model. Very good used condition for a French KOF or whatever you like: $80 + shipping.

3. Campagnolo Record levers, '80s, I'm not hip to the subtleties of these as a category, but these before us are in good "user" condition with some marks, but none too embarrassing. Looks like the bike perhaps went down twice, once on each side but not too heavily; maybe knocked over while at rest. There's a little scratching / scoring, but not deep. Use these without fear or regret. $25 + postage. These were someones "upgrade" on a circa '68 Bottecchia, but I've put Universal levers back onto it.

4. Kharkov Cycle Works road bike, made in Ukraine, complete less wheels. Saddle needs to be replaced. Original cottered crankset, alloy brakeset, proprietary derailleurs front and rear, not sure about bars but they are likely original, too (and they need bartape). This and other Kharkov machines were discussed some months ago on the occasion of a report from one of the listmembers about his ongoing involvement with the Kharkov operation as it exists today. The machine I'm offering must certainly be a curiosity in this country; it carries the red star and "made in U.S.S.R." on its seattube. Down tube carries the legend "Ctapt wocce", and brakes and derailleurs are marked "XB3" (Cyrillic alphabet again, of course). Build quality beats Peugeot UO-8 for lightness--and fanciness of headlugs--but the torch work does not display great finesse. The rear dropout includes mounting facilities for the rear derailleur, but it's rather a surprise. "Weld-on" rather than brazeon, IIRC. However, the bike has a surprisingly fine ride, does not seem heavy, and tracks in a true line down the road. Size is 55cm c-t-t (seattube) x 55 cm c-t-c. My favorite part on the bike is the uniquely sculptural steel stem. A downside is that the bottom bracket likely needs an overhaul--unless that's just pedal noise. Put an alloy crankset on, though, and the bike would be really a fairly light one. Paint is only fair, but there, and the logos are in good shape. I believe they are screenprinted onto the bike. A clearcoat over the top of the blue metallic paint might do wonders. Has new replacement seat binder bolt & straddle yokes for the "XB3" centrepulls. $75 + shipping to pass this to a good home. Jpegs available.

5. Alloy stem--3 ttt Record 105mm in good shape. Casting was slightly funky, didn't quite fill out the mold at the very top so that a few little depressions along the extension didn't get polished out. That is, a few square millimeters look like a raw sandcasted surface. In other words this is not a "show" item. On the other hand, the red, white and green band marked "Garantito" survived beautifully. It's either a 26mm where handlebar diameter is concerned, or a very generous "25.4". $17.50 + shipping.

"Or best offer" applies to all, should you think I'm overly optimistic somewhere, but believe me, I'm a very good home for your spare cash at the moment! You can be generous in good conscience.

By the way, it's lots of fun associating with you all. I continue to learn a lot hanging around here. Thanks.
