Subject: [CR]Thumbs-up to Gommitalia Calypso tires

I'd like to give a thumbs-up to a fine clincher tire, available with traditional sidewalls, though with a logo that might be a tad larger than some purists might prefer. I've been riding Gommitalia Calypsos for maybe as long as six or seven years. Prior to that, I rode mostly Contis, looking for a combination of traditional sidewalls, durability and value. Occasionally I would splurge, and buy Vittoria Opens, and they rode wonderfully, very lively, but they were fragile, and I didn't get many miles out of them. The Calypsos don't have quite the plush ride of the Vittorias, but it's darn good, at half the price and with much greater durability. A much nicer ride than Contis, which are very durable, but which I find harsh.

Not very many shops carry them, but Gita has continued to stock them. _<http://www.gitabike.com/cgi-bin/shop/sc_searchz.cgi?user_id=38019&database=dbase_s hop.exm&template=gom_sr2.htm&0_option=1&0=gt-caly_ (http://www.gitabike.com/cgi-bin/shop/sc_searchz.cgi?user_id=38019&database=dbase_shop.exm&template=gom_s r2.htm&0_option=1&0=gt-caly) > Cost-effective mail order is available from excelsports.com, but I'd encourage listers to ask for them at the LBS, in the hope of wider distribution, and preservation from extinction. There's a list of LBS at the Gita site.

Nominal 23, but I think they run more like 25. Only slightly smaller than my Conti 28's. Sold in pairs, in a handsome tin which can be used for stashing important small parts or foreign coins, and fresh ones smell great. Buy some soon.
