Hello All,

Afew bikes and perhaps an opportunity.

Back in the 80s I was in hunt for a Masi Special and would visit VeloSport in hopes of finding a consignment or something on the bulletin board. One occassion, I saw a M.S. listed on the bulletin board, the phone number was from Humbolt. I called, it was still availible and the guy wanted a firm $750.00. He told me that it originally belonged to a old Italian barber in town, he bought it, rode it some and now needs bucks more than a Masi. He agreed to send me some pics. When the pics arrived, I was bummed out... at 52cm it was to small for me and too big for my wife. But it was beautiful! Nervex, 151 cranks, Record ders., Universal cps-- you get the idea. I called him and told him that the frame size was wrong. He said that his wife was coincidently visiting Fremont where I live and she could show me the bike. I agreed, and she stopped by with the bike. Well the frame didnt grow any on its 200 mile journey, and I declined. She said that she'd take $375.00 and I just wasnt interested. Then her final offer was $175.00, and of course I said "no". She drove off.

On the way to a date one evening about twenty years ago; while walking to the train in my Zegna double-breasted suit (can you say "sharp"), I passed a 40 foot garbage dumpster. On top of the pile was a Schwinn Phantom; black and red. Looked damn cherry too. Although only a few blocks from home, time was of the essence. Sad.
