Subject: [CR]RE: Inflated Postage

Hi Lewis,

It's one of my pet peeves, as well.

But to be fair, items coming from Canada sometimes take quite a while. I t's my impression (more knowledgable list members, please correct me if I am wrong) that the mail coming from Canada to the US (& possibly the other wa y around) is treated as if it came from any other foreign country, in spite of such close relations with the US. For some reason, there has never be en an agreement between neighbors to speed this up a bit. I had a friend wh o lived in the US but owned property in Canada & she said it made everyone crazy on both sides of the border & there were talks in the works to improve things. But since 9/11, any discussion of changing it has been shelved.

I know from experience that when I deal with a Canadian buyer/seller I expect things to take a bit longer. One item took 3 weeks (& the postmar k showed that they mailed it within days of my payment). Not a problem, bu t I just don't get involved in a Canadian sale when time is of the essence. Otherwise, dealing with our neighbors to the North has always been just fine for me-never a problem & I buy/sell there regularly.

Having said that, (and not having seen the auction) the seller should have

told you the item was coming from outside the US.

Snipped: Mike touched on one of my pet peeves...inflated shipping/handling ch arges.

I purchased an $11 item (handlebar tape) from an Ebay merchant (Italtecno1

of Niagra Falls, N.Y.) not long ago, the postage was $7.50, and sinc e I really needed it, I begrudgingly went ahead with the purchase. The item took over two weeks to arrive, and when it did I found that it was sent from

Canada, and the postage was less than half of what I paid. I then left a

positive feedback for this merchant but mentioned that the postage was excessive especially when it took a while to get to me. This merchant th en left me a neutral feedback (my first in over 200 transactions) with a ters e message saying something to the effect that I knew the postage price ahead

of time and I should not have purchased the item if I didn't like the price...guess what, I have not purchased another thing from this mer chant, and I will most likely not again from any other merchant that uses this

method.
