Daniel Artley asked about Stinsman bicycles:

Someone is bringing a Stinsmen custom tandem to my vintage ride on the 16th. Its supposed to be a short wheelbase tandem w/ track ends and a hanger. Standard hubs/rims with extra spokes added at 90 degrees to help out the single bike rims. Haven't seen it yet, but it sounds interesting. Does anyone know of this American builder?

John Stinsman is a fine chap indeed, but I haven't seen him in at least 10 years. John lives in Eastern PA, and built a lot of bikes for the Trexlertown crowd and other racers. He specialized in making very light frames that were very pretty. For many years, frame-building was a side-line, as I recall he was an industrial arts teacher. Very community-minded fellow; with his wife he chaired (produced) at least one of the Eastern Tandem Rallies, that one a year when there were simply no other volunteers. I tried googling just now, w/o obvious success, so I hope he is well.
