Subject: [CR]bottom bracket sleeves

For the second time I have been unable to use a Shimano accordion type plastic bottom bracket sleeve with a Campagnolo Nuovo Record bottom bracket. Something in there just binds up.

Am I doing something wrong? Is there a reasonable substitute for the Campagnolo sleeve? Does anyone have an extra sleeve?

It's a funny thing. I have built up two bikes recently. One a '74 Masi, the other a '78 Richard Sachs. The Masi had been ridden a lot, and shows it. The Sachs has just been repainted by Joe Bell and is beautiful. For both bikes I gathered parts from a variety of sources, in each case mostly using a donor bike, and adding as necessary. With the Masi it seemed like all I had to do was throw the parts at the bike, and everything fit and adjusted easily, even the headset which came in parts from two different bikes. The Sachs has taken longer, and the work somehow does not go as smoothly. Part of this is that I wasn't too afraid of scratching the Masi, and it has had a variety of parts on it over the years, so the threads are certainly well-chased. The Sachs is the proverbial pair of white sneakers, just waiting for a scuff.
