Kendra:

A couple suggestions:

1. Sheldon Brown's website http://www.sheldonbrown.com.

2. "Zinn and the Art of Road Bike Maintenance" by Lenard Zinn. My favorite of books still in print. $20, but you can find it discounted.

3. "Bicycle Maintenance Manual" by Eugene Sloan. Early 80s edition. I might not have the title exactly right; I'm away from home and my library now. Sloan has a number of books with similar titles; you can get them for a couple dollars each on ebay. Get the early 80s edition, which has a yellow cover. This covers a huge amount of stuff relative to bikes of the 70s to early 80s.
