Colnago Fans:

Charles made the comment: "The second you take it for a ride, and put a little wear on the impossible-to-find outer chainring, your NOS bike is no longer NOS and is probably worth about 3K."

I guess some of the value of the bike derives from being unchanged and one of a kind. But as cool & clean as this bike is, I can't help but think that it would still draw a high price even if it wasn't either of those things -- because it is rare and beautiful none-the-less.

At any rate -- back in 2003, another metallic green 56cm 1972 colnago super-pantographata all-original featured-in-the-1973-New-York-Show bicycle was offered on Ebay but the auction ended early.

That earlier bike looked extremely similar to item 7176644790, with chrome headlugs and all the same pantographing. But there are some differences.

The bike in the 2003 auction appeared to have different color paint in the pantographing: the diamonds on top of the stem extension were alternating yellow and navy (blue), and the lettering and clover on the sides were in green to match the frame color. The clovers on the chainring were also green. The seatpost had yellow and navy grooves and a navy clover. The saddle had a non-Unica shape and had a white logo on the nose. The bar tape was black, and there were a few wraps of bar tape on the top-tube, 'pista-style'. The brake cable housing was grey. There was a matching green pump.

If this one in the present auction is distinct, it makes me wonder how many additional ones are out there. I strain to hear their plaint.
