I remember by 1977 or '78 Masi was considered passé here in SoCal.

Confente & Wizard were popular in SoCal at the time, but not by the number sold,

I agree, they were the desired frames, but there was not a lot of actual demand, Medici was also getting a following as they were different and cheaper for those who were price sensitive. Pinarello was starting to be acknowledged as well.

The Masi Carlsbad period was gone, The San Marcos Masi period was yet emerge and hit its stride.

There was not much excitement about new road bikes in 1977 & '78. Colnago had soiled its reputation in 1975 with the Bikeology container(s) full. Then there were these professionals looking around about a good bike to triathlon on...swim, bike AND run? We were told never to swim if one was serious about bicycle riding...
