Subject: [CR]Colnago 35th Anniversary

Gentlemen,

I realise 1989 is pushing a bit in this esteemed forum but can I ask if anyone has any info on the limited edition Master Piu that the master builder turned out to celebrate his 35th Anniversary? It is of course the year the C35 was launched, with its gold plated C record groupset.

For a decade or so I had admirered this bike in Tuscan bikeshop window. Miserable old boy who ran the shop would never answer questions about it. On my annual pilgramage last year I found the shop was gone. However the Garage opposite where he rented his bikes had been up graded to a bike shop.

In I went. The old man was gone but the bike was still there. Still without pedals, it had never been sold or even ridden in the 15 years it had been in the shop. I bought it. I brought in home to UK. It still hasn't been ridden, though I have have added a pair of NOS Record pedals, with Gold Galli Toeclips! Courtesy of Nigel at Campy Oldie.

Does anyone know about this series of bikes - How many were made etc?

The hubs, stem, seatpost front changer, rear changer, spokes are all gold. So are the rails of the Golden cork effect Sella Italia Saddle. Each golden part carries the Colnago cloverleaf with the number 35.

The frame is what was then the top of the range steel frame, the Master Piu, in the ivory/gold livery that features on Page 18 of the 1990 Colnago catalogue.

If everyone is stumped, does anyone know if there is a information service or an archivist at Colnago I could e-mail.?

Regards to all.
