Subject: [CR]frame w nervex lugs and insects on the tubes - please help
identify!!
Hello,
I have a big problem identifying a 1950s nervex frame that I bought on a lo
cal market here in Germany. It has problems with rust, little dents and a h
ole in the chainstay (chainsuck, maybe), but I like these lugs soooo much a
nd want to fix all this, step by step... First I wanted to find out about t
he manufacturer. The frame has no original sticker about it's brand, the he
adbadge is also missing. After checking pics and books for a while, I'm at
the end of my knowledge. I tried at the roadbikereview-retro-forum, but nob
ody could help. Instead I got this mailing list recommended. Maybe somebody
can help here:
- frame has nervex pro lugs and campy front & rear dropouts, no cable guide
s, it feels very very light

If you have problems watching these, the thread with the pics can be foun

- very "racer-like" geometry 54.5cm seattube (c-c) and 59.5cm top tube (c-c)
- the bb tells only "131393" and opposite, "U". I don't know if this is a t
ypical nervex bb lettering.

- no letters on the fork steerer
- two parts maybe original, a french Stronglight headset and a hollow axle
for cottered cranks that says "Boehm -
St. Etienne" - also french. BB thread is 1.37"x24T. If I'm right that's n
ot french.

- on some tubes are pressed-in symbols of an insect, sometimes inside a tri
angle (left chainstay, fork),
sometimes without (top tube, down tube near steerer tube)

- a sticker with the same insect is on the fork blades, so I consider that
"goldbrownyellow" to be the original color

- seat post size is 27.2mm, the seat stay attachment looks like 1950s style
to me...

- the seat binder: In the beginning I thought it was a later repair, but wh
at looked first like a slim insert was
the seat tube itself, machined to fit this seat binder (there is no gap o
r dimension jump inside the tube, there
is also some maybe-original color left on this "slim end").

The binder itself looks also little italian style, the one on a 1950s Gal
mozzi seems to almost the same.

At Wooljersey gallery I found two italian bikes that look very similar (lug
s, dropouts, seat stay attachment, seat binder style):
- a late 1950s Bussandri

- and a late 1950s Romani

All this similaryties mean maybe nothing, but I could find no picture of a
french bike with this seat binder construction, though there is a lot of fr
ench bikes with these lugs from that time. ...Let's see.
Thanks for your help (and for reading this far), I hope somebody can provid
e some informations...
