We did not term it cool, just "what to do" 30 years ago

Chuck's outlines were good, some additions:

Binda toe straps, preferably Extras.

Having a spare set of wheels in the following car (Your race number inserted in paper between the spokes to locate easily) And another set with a specific person at a specific place on the race course, and all with the same ratios set up to be completely interchangeable, no adjustments required. I was always surprised how many needed to adjust between training & race wheels.

TA superlight water bottle cage with stainless steel Allen head fasteners.

Campagnolo Black pedals, pista preferably.

Deepest cleats one could find, Pavin or A.E.R.O. nylon or built up leather 5/16" or more. Deeper yet to the rear.

No glue visible but well glued tires.

If race had limited support, frame fit pump, ditch the alloy end cap/sleeve, had to be a Campagnolo head. Pre glued spare tire.

Cinelli handlebar end caps, everyone lost the Hunt-Wilde caps on their Carlsbad Masi's at the first bar retape.

Regina S.C. Oro chain, not a regina Extra Oro, Clean shipping lube off and polish the side plates- Juniors only.

If you liked bar-end controls, Suntour only.

Finishing first.

On the track-

Binda Extra straps only.

Tire labels to the left hand side.

Loose ball bearings in the BB.

"Oil only" on race wheels.

If you were a Junior, no dust caps either.

D.I.D. "chrome" track chain

Steel bar & stem unless you were a pursuiter

Clement tire pressure gauge. Had Bar reading only & the custom Campagnolo head.

Cinelli Madison shorts with the quilted back.

Adidas shower sandals, don't walk in those race shoes!

Finishing first.
