Time to apologize for me, too. Got mixed up with a hub somebody offered me privately.
Anyhow, Steve M. is correct in pointing out that the hubs are of different vintages. The currently auctioned (rear) hub is a type 3, while the previous (front) one is a type 4. So no matching pair. And yes, starting in the 1960s (maybe earlier), Maxi-Car hubs were available with quick releases. (They increased the bearing size on the front to accommodate larger axles when they introduced the type 3.)
For a full history of Maxi-Car hubs, see Vintage Bicycle Quarterly Vol. 2, No. 4.

Oops, I was mistaken. The current maxi-car auction has a QR axle, just like the one listed earlier. I looked at the long right side and thought it was solid. Must be the sub-zero temps... Scott in St. Paul,MN*****************************************************************************
About one week ago, this seller offered a front Maxicar hub for sale. I outed and neglected to bid on it because it was being sold as a singleton. The seller is now offering the rear mate to the hub that he already sold:
It makes me wish that I had bid on the front hub. I seem to recall that it was a list member who then won the front hub, so you now have a chance to get a matched set.
