I have recebtly acquired an early 1950's Legnano that I am trying to date more accurately. It is a fairly nice racing frame that last changed hands in 1953, so it is earlier than that, but not much because it has Campagnolo dropouts with gear hanger and adjusters, which I think were introduced in 1951 or 1950 at the earliest. The frame number is DG651 stamped on the seat lug.
The underside of the bottom bracket is stamped G Bartali, but that has to be nonsense or wishful thinking because I think the last year he rode for Legnano was 1948, and the frame has to be later than that because of the dropouts.
Any information on Legnanos of this era would be much appreciated, and I would be very interested in knowing any frame numbers out there, especially if the approximate year of manufacture is known. In particular, I would like to know what the correct decals look like -- I am sure the ones fitted are wrong.
Many thanks
