Dave Gordon asks: << Does anyone know off hand, what it costs to have a fork replated chrome, on average, and lowest price for decent work? Any recommendations of a place to send it to, as well as your experience with them? Also were there any things that jack up the price, like rust, or pitting, whatever? And if so, how much, from your experience. >>

Preparation for chroming (cleaning, polishing, filling in pits, rust, goobers) is the most time consuming part which equals cost. So the rougher the part, the more expensive the job. I haven't had a fork chromed in a long time but good people do a good reliable job and therefore are not cheap. I would GUESS that $150.00 might be an approximate price expectation for a fork in great condition. That might be low though given general inflation in the world! Brian Baylis, Joe Bell, Cyclart and Franklin frames are places I personally know are reliable for processing a chrome order for a lightweight vintage bike part... They are on the CR Resources page along with others who might be competent.
