Hello List:
As I said on the original post the vintage rides are excuses to enjoy each others company and vintage bikes. May be I should have added 70 or 100 miles rides to there are lots of other opportunities to ride in the rain, dropping your buddies, etc. Chuck mentioned that we are trying to encourage people to come out and ride with us and anything much over 30 miles with very much climbing will discourage a lot of people. If people want to ride longer, again as Chuck said, they can ride to the meeting point to add the desired mileage. Quite a few of the guys in our group routine does that, such as Guy Apple and Brad Stockwell. Brad rode 45 miles (almost 3 hours) to meet us at the start of our last ride.
As for riding your 27 years old bike, that's what these rides are all about. On a typical Silicon Valley Ride, majority of the bikes would be older than 27 years. Same with the typical Pasadena Ride. In fact, some of the regulars on our rides like Peter Johnson, Dave Martinez and others don't even own a bike as new as 27 year old amongst their stable of 30, 40, 50?? Bikes.
