Subject: [CR]axle length problem - premature nut pop-off

I've just re-fitted my Super Elliott with a Huret Allvit rear der and a Cyclo 5-spd freewheel. This is so that my legs don't break again when next I ride it in the hills around here.

Problem is, the rear axle already was barely long enough for the wing nuts to hold onto. With the addition of the der hanger, I'm afraid the nuts will pop off at a very bad time (prematurely, that is...). I've already re-centered the axle to optimize the "reveal" on both sides.

What's the solution? Longer axle? It's now at 140mm for an OLN measurement of 116mm. Can I get a 150mm or so solid axle for an older Normandy hub? Or how about thinner nuts that require a spanner but have threads right away (my wing nuts and track nuts all have a few mm of no threading at first)? Stopped by my LHS (local hardware shoppe) yesterday and they don't seem to stock the correctly-threaded nut for this. Must check Sutherland's. Anyone else have/solve this problem?
