Jerry,

Dave's design and cutting work are always interesting, creative, and expressive. Like all good design work, he establishes a theme and then uses it throughout the frame. These lugs look primarily free form to me and I'm not looking for any moons or other things in them. I feel the fluidity of the design and it suggests the ocean to me. That's one of the beautiful things about lug designs.

These lugs are halfway through the process. The design was developed and then it was rendered onto the lug. The design may have been drawn directly on the original Pacenti lug, then cut. That's how I do it. Draw it freehand, then cut. How the bike actually looks when completed will now depend on how the lugs are finished, the level of workmanship and style of such, and then the paint in both design and exicution. These lugs depend on a certain amount of "topography", meaning the there is some carving done around some of the thin sawcut lines to give depth to the piece. If the lugs are stainless, then finishing and paint are a "whole 'nother kettle of fish". There is a lot of extra attention needed to make this happen; trust me, I just finished such a project and it was quite an education, even for me having been painting for over 30 years. I just learned a LOT! The finish is probably more important on most "fancy or upper end" frames, and it's easily equally as difficult and time consuming as some of the frames are!

Anyway, I'll be covering these topics during my seminar in Houston this comming Saturday.

Nice work Dave! As usual. Love to see the finished work, or maybe even aid in the paint process. Regardless, continue on in the same direction and you got a winner.

Brian Baylis La Mesa, CA Off to work now. First day of sun and warmth in a long time! Been feeling like crap. Today I'm beginning to feel better, being on the upswing of this damn cold.

Dave has been doing this for years. The detailing and lug designs he does are astounding. Even the superstars like richie and Brian have expressed being impressed with Dave's work. A Bohemian frame is definitely high on my list of purchases if I win the lottery.

Speaking of KOF's. Dave Bohm has finally got a shop set up in his new home. Sent me a few pics of partially finished handiwork. Thought you guys might like a peek. Baroque? (not pejoratively of course). http://flickr.com/photos/25271457@N00/
