Thought I might as well get on the band wagon and give my starter an airing. At 19 years old and in my 4th. year as a apprentice bricklayer my mother put a sum of my weekly wages in the Post Office National Savings acount. At the time I had the urge to having a "racing bike" so unbeknown to my parents I went and cashed the whole amount in my savings book then went and bought first new bike . It was a sports bike with all the "gear " I suppose a very basic machine would be the correct way to describe it! However I was a proud owner of a Armstrong and after the initial excitment had worn off and a bit more knowledge it lead me to being able to afford some upgrades. Joining a club was the correct move I made and its there that my cycling career took off and I shall always be grateful for the start that new "proper" bike gave me all those years ago!

I won't mention the trouble I got into with my parents in cashing those savings but they forgave me when they knew I and my club mates were making the local headlines as the Sussex 25 mile Champions and Best all Rounder team a year later. Lucky me !
