Subject: [CR]Shortening Silca Pump Advice

Special THANKS to Peter & Joe for their excellent advice on shortening Silca pump barrels!!! I understand that they have way more important things to do with their time than to stop and provide assistance to list members, so it is truly GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

It turned out to be a fairly easy job once they provided me with the "make-do tap" to cut the threads (i.e., Campy crank extractor or dust cap). Used the crank extractor because it was easier to handle/manipulate.

For anyone else that is considering tackling this job, my advice is to work the "tap" slowly, removing after every couple turns, cleaning the plastic from the extractor threads, and keep the extractor threads oiled. Prior to cutting the barrel with a pipe cutter, I inserted a wood broom handle (cheap sub for a dowel) as to not crush/crack the fragile plastic barrel. All in all about a 15-20 minute job.
