hi all, I could have added, I upgraded my own one to a allot bolt, I had a top section with a stripped thread, so I fitted a keensert to it and added the bolt, no idea what the weight saving is, esp after having to fit a keensert to the top clamp, but I dare say maybe a little. Has anyone out there used a alloy bolt on one of these seatposts before?........wayne daividson Invers NZ........

Wayne, Cinelli made an alloy allen-head bolt that was a little longer than the stock Campy bolt. It was supplied with the cast-alloy, wishbone-railed saddles to accomodate the higher rail profile. It looked just like a 1-R stem binder cut short. A friend of mine used one on his race bike , back in the day, and didn't have trouble with slippage. On the other hand, he had major problems with slippage on 1-bolt Campy post (C-rec, same mech as SR) on his track bike, and it had a steel bolt. So, the slippage issue probably had more to do with where he was sitting on the saddle and perhaps just post-to-post differences.

As an aside, the earliest 1-bolt SR posts had a steel bolt threaded into an alloy cradle top, but a steel Helicoil-type insert was added early on. On the really late 1-bolt posts (early 90's C-rec) the whole assemly was changed from 1.0 mm pitch to 1.25 mm (or maybe 1.5 mm). The coarser picth setup had an ugly, dull-gray finish instead of chrome and is easily identified.
