It's my understanding, the Lucas Company was constantly being pressured to lower their prices by the British auto industry. Do you remember the old story about how much money you can save by going from a 14 ball bearing hub to an 11 ball hub, times 10,000 hubs.
I think the auto industry got what it paid for and the consumer suffered, at least that's the way it was explained to me.
